Founded in 1956, the American Board of Endodontics is the only certifying board in the specialty of endodontics recognized by the American Dental Association and the American Association of Endodontists.
The purpose of the ABE is to assure the public that the endodontists it certifies have demonstrated exceotional knowledge, skill and expertise in the specialty of endodontics and to progressively raise the quality of patient care.
To become Board Certified, you must successfully complete three examinations and meet the requirements listed below:

Examinations: You must pass a one-day written exam that tests a broad range of fields including anatomy, biochemistry, pathology, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, radiology, statistics, clinical endodontics and related disciplines.
You must submit documentation of a variety of cases from your own practice. The cases must be diverse and complex enough to demonstrate exceptional knowledge, skills and expertise in the full scope of the field of endodontics.
Finally, there is an oral exam, where a team of experts question you about a variety of diagnosis and treatment situations. Throughout the extensive interview, you must demonste a high level of skill in problem solving, decision making, analysis, creativity and evaluation.
